Creating a Spa-Like Home and a Life of Intention

Securing my home as a spa—filled with calming ambiance and healthy relationships—has been a constant in my life. Since I first moved out on my own over twenty-five years ago, I have never stopped maintaining this sense of order and peace. My routine today reflects the same discipline I built back then.
Once a week, I do a full clean: vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and changing the sheets. Daily, I make
the bed, ensure there are no dishes left in the sink before bedtime, keep the bathroom clean, and put clothes away. This rhythm allows my home to always feel ready—whether for myself or for impromptu guests who may stop by. Cleanliness is not just about appearance; it creates a sense of calm and control.
That same consistency carries into my personal care. Flossing, showering, getting dressed, and presenting myself each day are small acts that contribute to a larger sense of self-respect and readiness.
As I step into a new chapter of my life, I am becoming more intentional with what I keep—both physically and emotionally. I’ve started organizing my life into “one box per chapter.” My educational career now fits into a single tote. The military is next—it, too, will be reduced to one container. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t stay.
Because the truth is: my identity is not defined by any single role. I am not just a military officer. That was a meaningful chapter one that shaped me—but it does not define me. Each role in my life has contributed to the sculpture of who I am today, carving lines of grace, hope, resilience, and yes, even moments of despair.
When it comes to my home, I have also embraced the importance of purging—twice a year. I go through clothes, paperwork, food, and anything I haven’t used in the past year. It’s freeing. It reminds me that things are just things. What truly matters are the memories we create, the experiences we live, the time we invest, and the love we share with family and friends.
In my twenties, I followed the principles of feng shui closely. Now, I follow something simpler—what brings me peace in my current season of life. Right now, that looks like a reset.
’ve learned to let go of excess. I don’t enjoy dusting, so I’ve eliminated figurines and unnecessary décor. I choose to surround myself only with what I use and what adds value to my life.
Because in the end, less truly is more.
